Welcome!
I asume that the grey one was the starting position with your car?
Don't like the grill mesh, but that bench in front is nice
Have you done something with the engine? looks like you have some serious braking equipement
Greetings Kense
-
Engine is 2lt 16 valve with stainless exhaust, decatted, 4 branch manifold and modified airbox, vr6 one day hopefully and back to the original colour
Bought my Passat just over two years ago after a long run of VW's mainly aircooled. Passat was bought as a standard GT as spares or repair and two weeks later took me to Madrid

Using google translate but its hit and miss.
The one thing i do want for my car is a pair of Hella DE's which are hard to get hold off in the uk. Last week i bought a pair of BMW 320 lights which I am hoping to convert to fit. The plan so far is to separated the low and high beam lights and mount them in the backs of the original Passat lights that i have started to cut up. If this works it's going to cost me very little which is good in these times

Back of the passat light with the back of it cut out

Cool you put work in a conversion. You are using the E30's model right? Maybe you can use the E36 lights wich have the plastic/glass plate in front.
The Hella DE's are rare in Holland too. You might already know but www.ebay.de is a good place to find parts, but be sure you're seated before you look at the shipment prices

Cheers for link. I did consider using e36 units but unless i reshaped the outer edge they would not line up nicely with the indecaters. I also feel the e30 units if i can get them finnishe off neatly will look more old school plus they will be one off, bit like the rest of the car

welcome
like the front grill
never seen something like that before

-
Welcome,
Certainly not all is my taste, But I am also a difficult person
But I see things that you've done that have a lot of potential! So i'm very curious as it is finished!
-
Hi welcome, ever heard of the Smurfs ??
-
Yepn been around long enough to have heard of the smurfs, not sure what the connection is thou?
-
Hello elpassata,
:welcome:
You've got some nice project going on. I like this color a lot. Is it definitive this color or are you planning for a complete different color?
-
Yepn been around long enough to have heard of the smurfs, not sure what the connection is thou?
I think he means the collor of the car.
-
The colour is Dove Blue which was left over from when my mate sprayed his van, we sprayed the car in an afternoon just to protect it where the rear doors had been welded, Smurfs
Been playing with the car today as Im off work until tomorrow, fitted a baffel in the tail pipe as it's a bit noisey and played around with the bme lights, starting to think e36 lights would have been an easier option
-

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo, why the eye-lids
I've been looking at your E30 lights.... Maybe you can mount the headlight on the headlight-mask, close the gaps with filler, so you end with two circles and then cut out some space or mount an indicator on the side
-
the lightunits from a E30 is the basis for the DE they look similar anyway so i'm curious how you want to do the works on your lights
-
Had a couple of dryish days here in the UK so I've 3 little jobs that need doing.
1, Ive got round to fitting a baffle in the exhaust tailpipe and after taking it out and wrapping fibre glass that i bought from a motor bike shop it's made a difference
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DSC00294.jpg)
2, Around the beginning of Dec i bonded part of a gt door body kit to my bumper to flush it out and i have got round to filling it, hand painting it then rubbing it down this morning to take the shine out of the paint. OK it's not the neatest of jobs but it will do until the weathers warmer, i have more time and after 12th Jan when i go into hospital to have my back sough ted out i will be able to work on my car and not suffer afterwards
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/PB050067.jpg)
panel cut out from the gt door bodykit

It's indeed rare, a two-door variant. I'm sticking to this topic. Always good to see people do things the other way around to create an unique look
I really like the rimms. Too bad they won't vit on my B3... Keep up the good work!
-
Wicked
(how) did you level the floor?
I took all the fabric of the back of the rear seat, rear seat I used was not a split seat. Then cut away all the metal so I was left with only the back 50mm so I could refit it and use it as a hinge. As my doors are welded shut i then ran length of Alloy angle bar from door to door/ Then used MDF to make panels that screw to the remainder of the seat and rested in the alloy angle. So I can in theory lift the floor as its hinged. I have 12 inch sub under the floor. Hope that makes sense

All one colour now. Next job after rebuilding the front brakes is to get the sides sign writen. Anybody know if the number plate tub from a saloon fits a wagon?
-
The license-plate panel on the back for the wagon and the limo are different. You need a panel of a wagon. The dimensions are different.
Looks are good. Love the idea of a 2-door wagon. Nice!

hey, nice topic, description and car.
It's a cool project, and i like how it looks.
only my previous car was a ford escort van, so it was comparable with what you're building, and I thought i was lucky with that car. but the feeling when i just got my B4 variant was unwritable for me. it's so much more comfortable with those windows.
does it have to pass a control or something?
my previous car was light carriage and ow my passat is double usage. so it costs more on taxes and insurance since i have more seats.
-
Quick update to say i still have this car/van and it's come a long way since. Took it off the road to get it ready for painting at the end of last year and it's still off the road.
Will keep the update brief and let the picture do the talking

It's good to see you coming back again!
Edit:
I changed your language-selection to English, makes more sense
-
How could i forget, just need how to get my pc to translate complete pages at a press of a button
, old pc did.
I was adapting a VW bay window bus dashboard to fit in my car, bus dash is about is about 150mm longer but once you chop a little out of each end the top actually fits nice around the bottom on the screen and it's just a case of making it wider to bring the dash further forward and adjusting the angle of the front of the dash. The actual B3 clocks will sit where the bus ones did and could have been covered up with the glove box lid.
All this changed when I removed the old wings, this mad idea came to my head that if the wings were welded together they would make a good front for a dash and I would then have the bodywork swage line on the inside of the car. Lines in the bonnet carry on in to the dash as well using another bonnet for the top of the dash, except the bonnet used is from a Ford as the lines fade out better, plus it was laying around. Now have a cable made up to connect the Volvo speedo but the speedo which is VDO needs recalibrating badly 100km's VW = about 170kms Volvo. I have also lengthened the cluster loom so I can hide up the original cluster when i want to.
-
I moved your topic to the Projects section. I hope you don't mind

Picked the door cards up to day and picked out Material I'm now going to use for a headlining
Anyway here's the cards, hope you like, I do

While at the upholsterers I was offered a bit of advice for when I tackle the headlining. Changing from the first one I have done as it's going to be a different colour, but hey the daily's blue so it can go in that. Advice was not to use spray glue, use a good contact adhesive but more importantly to seal the roof panel after you have removed the original material. I was shown a tin of wooden/cork floor sealer you can buy from any DIY store etc and advised to give the panel at least a couple of coats of that
-
very nice ...again
-
Nice job
-
Could I have a branch of your money tree?
Nice solution for the window lever gaps and thnx for the head lining tip, the vr6 I temporarely have, has the same problem.

Tweeters are fitted further forward and the window winder holes have been filled
Went over to my mates yesterday to some more work but my mate had a car in the spray both ready for painting and another that need some priming in the work shop so I could not get on so I went home to work on my other Passat, build thread coming. Anyway took a few pics while there

still need to fabricate the top of the dash around the speedo

Reworked the top of the bottom half of the hatch so it will look a bit neater when it's finished

Been over to the van today and my mate who will eventually be spraying the thing for me has been busy smoothing and shaping the dash, I spent the afternoon sorting the wiring and having a tidy up. Anyway I will let the pictures tell you where we are up to

The little one's been poorly today so didn't spend as much time at Nicks as I would have liked and had to pick her up from nursery early. Anyway took the seat base over and cut the consul to the desired length and then made an infill up that will bring the consul in to seat, still needs shaping but you get the idea

Quick update .Still preparing the van to get it painted, making good and removing old paint but being held up with not feeling to good due to a virus that I can't see to shake.
Been given the switch's for the lights etc some thought. First of all I thought about using a B5 light switch as that has the foglight switch built in to it and then I got a Merc 123 series switch as this also has the foglight switch built in to it. Then there was where do I mount it, Merc and B5 switch need plent of space behind them soit meant they would have to go in the dash and I don't want anything in the dash except the Volvo speedo which at present is being recalibrated. Anyway it's all gone full circle and I'm now going to use the original switch's so that they match the window switch's etc.

Managing a few hours a week on the van and it's getting near to being painted. Do seem to have time in between little monsters sleeps that I spend on the daily. Rear wheels Ive had banded and the fronts I am in the process of reducing the et by knocking out the centers and repositioning them, tell you something they take some knocking out

Hi Guys, hopefully the wheel bearings will be OK as I have only moved the centers 22mm inward so the ET will 16, think thats right. Any had a spare couple of hours so I knocked the other center out, refitted them and offered them up on the car, also made a crude gauge to make sure they spin true and the dish is the same on each wheel

Just need to get my mig welder to work or take them over my mates to weld, paint them and fit some tires. Thinking on fitting 175x65 or 185x60,cant decide then once it sits right I need to get stuck in to the van
-
All fitted now, just need to add a bit of camber on the rear

Good to see you're still working on the Passat. Nice touch those rims!
-
Must admit Ive been a bit slack of late but there has been some progress on both cars. Bodywork on the van is just about ready for painting, rear sub frame has had new bush's fitted and the speedo has come back recalibrate and ready to fit

As for the daily it now has added camber a pair of fog lights (just need a pair of covers) and it will be getting my Hella De's from the van as I have some better ones coming for that

well done !! camberplates on the rear ??? i'm curious what will become of the van
-
Just added a little camber to the rears, never used camber plates just a washer between the stub axle and axel using the bottom front bolt only, never put a washer on both bottom bolts because it will throw your tracking right out.
Had a little spare time when my daughter had her afternoon sleep and fitted the Hella's to the daily, don't suppose anyone knows how to get the main and low beam to stay on together as I cant remember exactly, think its pulling out relay 53 and bridging 2 points

Nice updates on the project!
For your question on the DE units I think the topic mentioned below will help you on your way

Love it!

Going back to the original colour Reflex Silver, also going to get a standard front nose cone and not use the bad boy one. Interior is going to be St Germaine Red which is a Suzuki colour
Cheers Guys
-
Great job man! Really looking forward to the final result!!
-
nice work !!! can't wait for the final result
-
Any update?
-
That update
Well just to let you know Ive not given up on van and it is progressing all be it very slowly due to other commitments and a total lack of time and finances.
Extended the bottom of the trim so the new dash will look neater
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DSC01899.jpg
Also altered the cover for the bottom of the tailgate
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DSC01974.jpg
My daily drivers also been treated to a set of rear lights, also have another set for the van
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DSC01990_zpsb9c84434.jpg
Just need to tint the inner lights to match
-
nice!

I like the taillights on your daily  and the forum-sticker has been placed too

Going to be putting the same lights on my van

Those taillights in white-red, are those easy to find in the UK?
Nice project, your van. I will folow this topic too!

Very easy, there;s a few on e-bay,do you have Rovers across the pond?
-
OMG  That is really how you did it?! Respect! ...from what type of Rover you used the taillights?
EDIT after google-ing: maybe from the Rover 416 tourer?
Your van has some very nice specialties!
For example: what the f*ck did you do with the backdoor?!
I can see that it is cut in half(!); only the lower half is mounted on this picture:
...do I see it right, that the lower part is hinged at the position of the left taillights??
-
Yes hinged from behind the rear inner lights, here's a picture from when it was last on the road
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DSC00368.jpg)
Rover 214 / 216 / 218 of about 1992 started off by cutting a passat light up to make a template
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DSC01988_zps7796b948.jpg)
Carried it around with me offering it up on what ever car I could find with clear indicators that was similar, Rover is more or less spot on, T4's are close but you cant buy clear indicators cheap for them, my 2 lights cost me £10 plus the sealer. Already made a RHS light for the van and I am now looking out for another 2 LHS to make up as I dropped the one O bought and it snapped in 2
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DSC01984_zps340dad8d.jpg)
Will put more pictures up of how I did when I up load them on to photo bucket, off to bed now, work tomorrow, early start, night all
-
really nice work!
-
Started making up another set of lights for the van and Ive been attacking the saloon Heckblende with slitting disc and a blow torch to bend it more in line with a wagon one. Heckblende was damaged when i bought it and needed a bit of plastic welding anyway, might carbon wrap the black anyway
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/hella001_zps7976e04c.jpg)
Bottom edge now straight, pity I couldn't stretch the thing a couple of mm

-
respect! can't wait to see the whole (installed) picture
-
Not a lot to report but the van should be getting reprimed next weel
Any I have replaced the part of the dash that holds the stereo/ heater as it was in about 6 different pieces. Replaced it with the one from the van that had been painted so had repaint to match this car, also did part of the speedo binnacle and light switch
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/005-2.jpg)
Received a PM yesterday about the tinted hella's I have for sale. Mr dubs would like some tinted red lights for his wagon so it got me thinking I have the rest of the rover lights in my bin, well did have because the bin men came this morning. After getting them out I thought I would cut one up to see how it fits. Not as good as the clears bits but still pretty good fit and this was a rush job (unlike the van respray :hyst ). One prob you will have if you decide you want to do this there is a seem between the reflector part of the light and the light, I actually like it
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/004-2.jpg)
The procedure was the same except you cut the width from the bottom of the lence as apposed to the top on the clear part. This was my only attempt, it was rush and given more time I think I could have got them better.
The other problem will be MOT but I think if you use green bulbs it will flash orange.
-
beautiful!
...you think that green bulbs through red 'glass' wil flash orange?!
I don't think so...,maybe if you use yellow ones?
but:
In Holland it's okay to have red coloured turninglights at the back (and white ones at the front) in stead of orange; maybe it's the same in the UK?
-
Much effort gone in to it! :applause:
Not ment to annoy you but there is special paint (red and black tinted) available for lights... or is that to easy and not original enough
Wich color are you going to paint it? Love the .nl sticker

Not going to use the red lights, only made them up as I had the old lights kicking about, I'm using clear indicators on the van and its going back to it's original color and original front mask
Thanks for all support

haha, so it was a "small" time killing project?
Looking forward to it!

Did do a little work today. Was going to replace the back axel as I have a powder coated one ready to fit but in the ended decided to drill out the two snapped bolts in the existing stub axels, one each side. Also fitted the bumpers, splitter on the front and set the car back on the ground

Fitted the door glass and a wiring loom from a car that has front electric windows only. As is i cant them to work and I have swapped the control box and still no luck. There is 3 wires that Im not sure off. ones yellow/black and separates from the loom where the control box is, The other two separate from the loom near to the fuse box. ones black with a green plastic plug and the others a blue/grey wire which i think maybe to do with the lights. Also fitted the front lights and took some pics before my hand nearly dropped off through cold

*edit*
Almost forgot...
IT LOOKS WICKED !!!!!

Thanks , all helps. Lucky I have the daily to pull apart, got to be something simple as there's only one way the loom can fit
-
Door glass and door poppers are all now working. and it's starting to all come together. The saloon Heckleblend was never going to be a good fit on a wagon so it was cut up and then built in to a standard wagon tub
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/passat%20van/001-2.jpg) (http://s126.photobucket.com/user/mocco7/media/passat%20van/001-2.jpg.html)
I ended up cutting it in to six parts in the end before gluing it all back together. The end result was that it fitted better was the lock was move 5mm outwards but it had horrible joins in it so it was ditched and ended up on the daily
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/passat%20van/heckleblend004.jpg) (http://s126.photobucket.com/user/mocco7/media/passat%20van/heckleblend004.jpg.html)

The tub from the daily will be modified so that I can do away with the reversing/fog light units which I think will make the rear end look a lot cleaner and wider making the car look lower
Dash is also in the car, fitted this morning so Im now ready for front and rear screens and sorting the rest of the electrics

Thanks for positive comments. Had the front and rear screen fitted today so it really looks like it coming along. However I did have a set back in that the sunroof jammed and when I tried to free it off part of the mechanism broke so it now looks like i need a replacement sunroof, any one know if a Golf one fits or do I have to stick with B3/4, fancy a glass one
-
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the glass of either the golf or passat is slightly bigger.
-
I've fitted the complete mechanism+windowroof of a Golf Mk3 (including the sunblind), leaves a small gap between roof and glassroof but no leakage so far, only if you throw a bucket of water directly on top it will drip for a few days
AND the sliding motor/auto-cut-off-when-closed is different, so when you close the roof you need to release the switch at the right moment, or build in the motor+switches from the golf (different wiring, haven't looked in to it yet....)
-
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the glass of either the golf or passat is slightly bigger.
I hope not I have bought a moon sunroof from a B4 today
-
Moon roof fitted, USA tub extended and some of the interior fitted all be temporary as the center console will need painting as will around the widow frames on the inside

I noticed that too. Too bad!
Maybe his photobucket account allows only a certain amount of images?

Hi guys Im still about but have no idea why photo bucket is deleting my pictures
Not been a good summer for me health wise this year and the van has been put on the back boiler. I had a knee operation about 4 months ago but I'm told I need a new knee but I'm to young for that to happen, nice to be to young for something. Then I was told I have skin cancer and I'm actually due to go in to hospital today to have the growth removed but I cant. Finding out I had the bid C kind of preoccupied my brain all be it less dangerous type of cancer.Im also waiting to have another operation on my Piles which have been banded twice in the last 10 months and not worked. This operation was due on the 12th of September but has also been cancelled.
Throughout all these problems i have tried to remain positive and keeping myself fit. My other love away from working on cars is Mountain biking and although I have been told I need to take it easy on the knee Im still having the odd ride. Last Saturday I went with a friend to a trial park that has various rides to suit your experience. Off course we were doing the Black run which has a few pits you can bomb down. The last pit near the end I crashed big style going down a 10 foot drop and the handle bars went in to my rib cage puncturing my lung causing a small part of it to collapse, also have a bleed on my liver, a few cuts and bruises and a couple of cracked ribs. I spent 4 nights in hospital fed on oxygen and Morphine in the hope I can breath pain free and not end up having to have a pipe put in to my chest to have the lung drained and re inflated. Must say the park rangers / Ambulance were brilliant, took them an hour to get me out due to being in a forest. Hospital were pretty good to start with but on day to when i complained that I can not take the morphine as it was making me constipated and I wanted to be transferred to a hospital nearer home I start to feel totally hopeless as well as monged out. Got myself discharged on no pain re-leaf and very constipated Wednesday. Good to be home but I miss the Hospital bed lol. Also seem to have a urine infection were they tried to catheterise me, and I now cant sleep as I need a piss every 45 mins that stings like hell and it takes me ages to get out of bed and wakes the girlfriend up.
Really think I'm due some luck,my jobs under threat and with all the time Ive had off through sickness this year is not good. Roxy my had a job interview yesterday, the interview was for her own job as they are halving the amount of band 6 mental health nurses in the community.
All in all a lot going on
-
OMG!
What happened to you the last time, a lot of people won't experience in their whole lifetime!
I hope everything will be fine again some day soon.
I'm sorry for you, that you can not work on the car; because if you could, you could also set your mind on something else and forget everything for a while...
What I don't understand is if you still have your job? I hope so...
Good luck! ...and indeed, the missing photo's are not that important right now! Be well!
-
Sorry to hear that :( Hope you get better soon!
-
OMFG... you need good luck man! Sending it right now!
Hope you get better again!
-
Thanks for your best wishes
Thursday night was not a good night for me, after being up all night in pain and entering my last post in the early hours of Friday morning I was readmitted to Hospital by about 09;30hrs with breathing problems and in a lot of pain, this time my local hospital. They kept me in over night got my breathing back under control which mainly down to pain and not my lung deteriorating and sent me home this evening with a good medication package.
Going to be off work for a while so I will try and sort my Photo Bucket out and update things. I have done a fare bit of work on the van since I last update but not as much as I would have liked, it should have been on the road by now
Couple of pics I do have up loaded so will add now
Little while i was given a brand new rear bumper including all fitting for nothing so the old that was already painted silver came off so the new one could be used. I have filled in the exhaust recess and made it side exit and fitted a central fog light and it is now smoothed and primed ready for top coat
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/passat%20van/bumper001.jpg) (http://s126.photobucket.com/user/mocco7/media/passat%20van/bumper001.jpg.html)(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/passat%20van/bumper003.jpg) (http://s126.photobucket.com/user/mocco7/media/passat%20van/bumper003.jpg.html)
My daily now has the Heckleblend as that's not going to be used on the van as it is not good enough and when our cooker decided to go with a bang about 2 weeks ago i used the chrome slidey bits that racks fit as spot light grills, they fit so well.
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/passat%20van/005.jpg) (http://s126.photobucket.com/user/mocco7/media/passat%20van/005.jpg.html)
Night all, rest time xx

Life's more important than a car, so don't push yourself doing things. On the otherhand, I can imagine that it is a nice way to get your mind of daily troubles.
Anyway: get well soon indeed :ok:
If I've red it right: the shiny bits from the cooker are on the front?

That is correct, did it as a bit of a joke but it looks Ok, hoping to be able to collect my car tomorrow and will take some pictures. Haven't driven for over a week and not been able to look out of my window and see a B3, doesn't feel wright :drive:
-
Get well soon! I'm looking forward to your new updates.
-
Don't know whats going on with photo bucket. Just updated to auto upload and its put about 3 of every photo i didn't have save on it. Anyway I have replaced some of the pictures that have disappeared, probably not with the right ones but neither mind and here some newer ones
This is the old instrument cluster mother board which I have soldered wires to., this will be hidden under the new dash and will power up the fuel and temp gauge and the lights and warning lights on the Volvo cluster
(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p87/mocco7/DARIA-VAIO/various014.jpg) (http://s126.photobucket.com/user/mocco7/media/DARIA-VAIO/various014.jpg.html)
The high beam warning was taken direct of the switch and the indicators of the wiring for the side repeters as there was plenty scope to fit the diodes in
Headliner fitted and interior trim has all been painted and fitted except for one bit as for some reason i gave my mate a saloon bit, don't understand this as Ive never broken a saloon

Spot light griils donated from our old cooker. The bumper skin never started life with the spot light holes so I had to cut them in, really need a pair of the covers that fit the bumper to smarten things up

Hi guys
Don't know if you have a thread that covers none motoring issues etc but if you do could someone translate what I am about to post as a warning to others who may not read my thread.
In the Uk so much emphasis is put on checking moles on your skin that have changed colour or bleed etc.
Don't have to be a mole, it can be a spot, black, brown, blue silver or any unusual mark on your skin so please get it checked,
This started off as a spot that bleed occasionally which I put down to being on the shaving line. Turned out to be skin cancer and if i had known earlier i would not be left with this.

Whats far worse than the scar is the wait to have it removed knowing you have cancer and the fact you have ignored it for a long time, still have to wait another 4 to 6 weeks to see if it all removed

Had the van back on the road for one week then someone ran in to the back of it. It's all repaired now and finally my free sticker was put in the rear window
